ABOUT THE PODCAST
Created in August 2022 by Rugaba John Paul, the Sangyin Podcast is a platform that amplifies the voices of the African diaspora and beyond, sharing insightful and inspiring experiences and stories to motivate a new generation on the African continent and globally. The podcast fills a gap in narrating the experiences of the African diaspora, particularly in China, where few platforms previously existed for Africans to express themselves freely.
The name “Sangyin,” which means “voice” in Mandarin, reflects the country where the podcast was initially recorded. The first episode aired on August 18, 2022, and since then, the podcast has produced over 100 episodes, featuring more than 250 guests. It includes special editions such as the Country Edition (highlighting individual African countries), the Friends’ Chat Edition, and the Homeland Edition (showcasing influential figures based on the African continent).
The Sangyin Podcast is honored to have won the 2023 Pride of Africa-Asia Award in Arts and Culture, while also being nominated for the 2023 Pride of Africa-Asia Award in Media and the 2024 African Podcasters and Voice Artists (APVA) Diaspora Podcast Award. Recently, it has been recognized as one of the top African podcasts in China and among the leading African diaspora podcasts globally, according to statistics from Feedspot, PlayerFM, and Million Podcasts.
On November 25, 2023, the podcast became part of the larger Sangyin Media Group, which encompasses events, journals, and studios. Under Sangyin Events, the company has sponsored various activities, including the Wuhan African Gala Night in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Additionally, Sangyin Journals launched “The Sangyin,” a biannual magazine that highlights the works, experiences, and thoughts of the African diaspora, while also publishing articles offering an African perspective on global events.
